Oscar the Living Juicer is my best friend ever… or at least up there with BlendTec the Blender, Kyocera the Ceramic Knife and Squeezy the Lemon Squeezer! After a week away on vacation (which I will blog about in a foodie context soon), my wonderful man popped in to the market to get me goodies for juicing, and as I was shoving carrot after carrot I was marveling at how well dearest Oscar has lasted and what wonderful juice he makes me.
I bought Oscar when I was living in London, about 12 months before I went raw vegan. He was not cheap, and probably a ridiculous investment at the time – I used it three or four times and then he sat on the bench – I was out most nights and too hung over to make juice in the morning! I made the investment because I did my research. I wanted to get the most out of my juice (when I made it), and wanted to the possibility of juicing wheat grass (although I was regularly paying £3 a shot instead of buying it fresh!)
Yes. Ridiculous. Until I went raw vegan and started to value the magnificence that is cold press juice. Unlike centrifugal juicers which use a high speed blade that destroys the living enzymes and causes the juice to oxidize, Oscar squishes the juice out, preserving the enzymes and allowing you to store the juice tor 1-2 days in the fridge. In the last 18 months, I have used the juicer enough to more than realize the value in a financial sense, and my body thanks me.
I have only ever user Oscar and the noisy centrifugal juicer my mother has and I’d take Oscar any day. In addition to the health benefits, he’s super quiet.
It really is love. And soon, we will embark on a Reboot together – Joe the Juicer has inspired me :)
